Worst Case of Greenwashing EVER!

Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008 by Everett : Mountain Surfer Everett
OK I can understand marketing your eco-friendlyER products. Heck, I do it for a living! But these people have gone way too far... When a company tries to put an "eco friendly" spin on a product that is bad - nay, terrible - for the environment we call it Greenwashing. And This Page is one of the worst I've found (other than Exon Mobile, etc.).

They even went so far as to trademark the term "Eco-Shape" for their plastic water bottles that use less label (hey, it's not the label that's the problem!) and are "Easy to crush for recycling..."

Paaaleeeeeease! Gimme A Break...

PS: Thanks to Riomx for pointing it out to me. I needed a good laugh today.

Riding ATVs at Rainbow Falls

Posted on Mar 19th, 2008 by Everett : Mountain Surfer Everett
It felt higher than it looks.

We went down to Rainbow Falls last weekend and started off the ATV season with a bang.

I'm all for hiking on foot and enjoying the mountains, but unless you have three days to trek through five feet of snow...

There are few better ways to see the secluded spots within the Rocky Mountains. From old, abandoned mines and gold rush ghost-towns to quiet pastures and rocky outcrops - you can reach places on an ATV that only highly experienced hikers could reach otherwise.

To preserve the surrounding environment, always stay on the trail. Don't "blaze your own path" through the mountains. Be mindful of corners and hill crests so you don't injure yourself, another rider or wild animals crossing the track.

Above all - HAVE FUN! Life is short. Enjoy it.

If you're interested in ATVing check out Motosport Reviews for more information on which ATV would work best for you. I ride a Yamaha Raptor 660cc and my wife has a Yamaha Warrior 350cc. These are great for trails, dunes, racing and climbing. But if you want something that is going to do well in rocky areas and mud, you might opt for a 4WD model. See you on the trails...

I Can Has Chew Toiz?

Agnes is so cute it's hard to get mad at her; even when she's chewing on your $150 watch.

Want to see a few more...

Here is a video of Bulldogs at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. These are fine specimens of what an English Bulldog should look like. I love this breed...

Three more days and it's PUPPY TIME!

Gaia Community Team Q&A

Posted on Feb 11th, 2008 by Everett : Mountain Surfer Everett
Everett-berthoud
Everett Sizemore
Manager, SEO Strategy
Gaiam, Inc.

What is your role at Gaia Community?
I am in charge of the organic search engine optimization for all of Gaiam's website, including Gaia.com and Gaiam.com, among others. In simplest terms, I make sure we can be found on Google when people search for keywords that describe our sites. Want to help out? Link to the following page from your own website using the words "Changing The World" or "Change The World" in the linked text: http://www.gaia.com  ;-)

What do you most enjoy doing (or what are your greatest passions)?
My first passion is being a good man/person/husband/human being. Second to that, I always have to be learning something new. I'll be in Hopland, CA this spring learning how to design and install solar panels at the Solar Living Institute. After that, I'd like to learn more about organic gardening. I'm also learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing. Sometimes I wish I could live forever just so there would be enough time to learn everything there is to learn. It is a shame we have to pick and choose, and that the more time we spend learning about other things, the less time there is to master the things we've already begun to learn.

What's your favorite thing about our community?
The members respect each other. You don't see any of the flame-wars that tend to happen on other forums, social media and community websites.

What do you love about working here?
Everything. I could not ask for a better job. Sometimes it just seems too good to be true. Then I remember all of the hard work I've put into mastering a craft and realize an apparent truth: The harder I work - the luckier I get.

Well folks, we're here on Gaia.com now and I happen to love the look and feel of the site, the overall welcoming feel from the Community and the promising future it holds for all of us.

The developers and designers working on this site have done a STELLAR job and I'm sure they realize what a beautiful thing they have created here.

Bravo!

PS: That's my dog Ivan-The-Terrible in the pic. He's my baby.

What would you say to the person you were one year ago?

Posted on Oct 24th, 2007 by Everett : Mountain Surfer Everett
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 24, 2007:

Read "Good Business" and "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff". Six months from now you will no longer think of work as 'work'. Six months from now you will no longer be worried about your future. One year from now you will learn how to find peace within the rat race. Let them race. Let them stress. Watch the world go 'round. Watch them go, and do the best you can without overworking yourself. Take time off. Take time for yourself. Enjoy life NOW instead of putting it off until the time is right. Today is yesterday's tomorrow.

OMG The Zaadz Team Is So Cool !

Posted on Sep 11th, 2007 by Everett : Mountain Surfer Everett

It's no wonder they've built the finest LOHAS community in the world - The Zaadz team are some of the brightest and most down-to-earth people you'll ever meet.

Gaiam and Zaadz is a match that was meant to be. We've been meeting for days on end these last few weeks to discuss all of the great things we're going to be bringing to the Zaadz / Gaia community over the coming months, and I have never before experienced such honesty, idealism and competence as I have in these meetings.

Gaiam has a lot of exciting things going on right now, but none more exciting than the partnership with Zaadz. I know my fellow Zaadsters are more receptive to change, growth and progress than most. However, I would still like to send out a personal message to anyone who might stop by and read this little blog: Great things are going to come out of this partnership and the people who are working on the project are doing so farm their heart. I feel inspired to be a better person every time I walk out of a Gaiam / Zaadz meeting, which just goes to show the type of energy being shared amongst the new Gaia team.

I wholeheartedly welcome you all to our family.

Now it's time for me to get back to work so all of this idealism can actually come into fruition. Until next time...

Warmest Regards,

Everett
